nipped at the ankles
which is how I
wander through life
sometimes I must
be pushed through
a door finally opened
after years of
knocking.
can you blame
me for being confused
when I have the sound
of crickets in one ear
and rain in the other?
of course I can curl around
a sunny feeling and collapse
once the blood rushes
from my head.
but these blurry fragile
images are all
I have in times
like these,
I don't need you to
tell me that I can't
lean on the fragile
and that I can't make
sense of the blurry.
darling, you don't know
what it's like
when something
comes up behind you
nipping like
a hungry reminder.

i identified with the last lines. those reminders don't always just nip, though... sometimes they bite with crocodile jaws.
ReplyDeletei liked the way you did your line-breaks, fragmented but complete, like a jigsaw puzzle.
good work!
Ah... but I'll bet you could succeed at leaning on the fragile and deciphering the blurry. I'll bet you can do whatever you put that clever mind to doing!
ReplyDelete'curl around a sunny feeling'...some marvellous turns of phrase here. :) // Peter.
ReplyDeleteSome beautiful word plays and phrases. Imagery of leaning on the fragile with sound of crickets in your ears is delicate balance. Wonderful work
ReplyDeleteI really liked the crickets in one ear and rain in the other imagery.
ReplyDeleteBlurry and fragile: excellent description as they ensure unintentional destruction, which is always nipping my my ankles.
Thought provoking and beautiful. Loved it!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting and well written poem. Loved it.
ReplyDeleteMelanie
Nothing blurry or fragile here. This is a poem that can stand on its own.
ReplyDeleteYour imagery and word play are magnificent. You write with such elegance
ReplyDeleteI also loved the curling around a sunny feeling, but I think the clincher for me was the rain in one ear and the crickets in the other... I know that feeling very well. As always a really lovely and strong poem!
ReplyDeleteWe need occastional nips to wake us up.
ReplyDeleteWell done with penning out those thoughts:)
